Culture of Love – A Filipino American Union:
TBT to 4th of July, 2011: What happens when rich traditions and the Fourth of July collide? A little magic and Heather and Ervin’s wedding. It combined the beauty of a traditional Filipino Catholic ceremony, a great band, a blue school house put to creative use, a milk shake bar, and the Pines at Genesee. (Not necessarily in that order.)
The couple kicked off their nuptials with a Filipino Catholic ceremony at their church in Park Hill. Their family’s priest performed the ceremony while loved ones looked on from the pews. There was a bit of a glow about it all, with all the soaring arches and the play of light on the walls. Just look at the photos! Afterwards the couple posed in front of the church for photos. The classic stone architecture rising above the steps was the perfect backdrop for couples’ only shots.
The wedding party also had their own round of photos, of course. Bridesmaids striking a pose on soft green grass showing off their sleek navy dresses and modern bouquets. And, of course, a blue school house door – and a posse of groomsmen in black suits, sneakers, and sunglasses posing “Reservoir Dogs” style. The groom made sure to stand out by wearing the only all-white pair!
WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM
The reception was at the Pines at Genesee so the wedding party piled into a white Porsche limo to head over. Which then broke down due to the high July heat. Although lots of people would’ve taken that as a disaster – we capitalized on the opportunity: cue bridge photos at the Buffalo herd Overlook. It really doesn’t get anymore Colorado than that: mountain peaks for miles and a herd of Buffalo. Man, I love Colorado!
After our photo op, we headed over the Pines to get the reception started. The evening had all the classic touches like modern-styled florals and crisp white linens. There were also some unique, creative twists like a milkshake bar. (Who doesn’t love a good milkshake especially when there are both kids and adults in attendance??) Dinner reflected the uniqueness of our couple with a nod to the groom’s heritage; guests enjoyed traditional Filipino cuisine. Finally, rather than choosing a DJ for wedding music, our couple booked a truly awesome band: The Fever. They do R&B, Funk and Jazz and they do it well. I think most people would agree that great music is at least half of any party – we agree – as did the guests at this Fourth of July wedding celebration.
