Handmade + Heartfelt, A casual outdoorsy summer soiree

Meet Katie and Jonathan:  They’re hikers, adventurers, beer connoisseurs, and true Colorado Natives. (Or what the rest of us refer to as “unicorns”!) They chose to have a heartfelt, personalized wedding with many handmade touches. For example, Katie provided many of the DIY details including the handmade bridesmaids’ purses and invites.

The ceremony took place at Clear Creek History Park. With its western roots and mountain views, it’s a great place to get the feeling of old Colorado. From the red barn to the chickens and the white schoolhouse alongside a creek, the site brings you back to simpler times. It’s perfect for a laid back affair that focuses on what’s important. Love!

After saying their vows, Katie – and a sweetly emotional – Jonathan ran off in a horse and carriage to their favorite nearby spot, Golden City Brewery. While there, they took a few minutes to grab a celebratory pint and toast one another – in true beer connoisseur fashion then headed to Prospect Park for photos. It was a warm summer day so the park was full of swimmers and picnickers who all cheered for the bride and groom. How adorable right? After photos at the park and along the creek they walked to the wedding reception at Golden Community Center.

DIY Favors 

Their wedding favors/escort cards were some of my all time favorites: mini Colorado license plates key-chain, skis, bicycles and more. They were fun, personal and very Colorado. All of their tables were dedicated to things they enjoy doing together, as a couple. They featured activities Katie & Jonathan participated in as well as local specialties like honey and pinecones. And for their love of travel: a globe guest book.

I love when brides and grooms personalize their day with the things that reflect who they are as a couple, as people, and share that with their friends and family. I also love when couple give back as part of their wedding like Katie’s choice to wear TOMS with her bridesmaids. If you aren’t familiar with Toms shoes, they give a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair you purchase – one for one. I hope you enjoy this perusing this sweet summer wedding.
